Why dont people obsess over wonderful things that happen?

Why dont we BROOD for hours and hours about the great meal we had with friends over the weekend?  It is because we are hard wired to PROTECT ourselves from DANGER!.  We dont need to protect ourselves from the GOOD so we dont dwell on the good. This is really, really unfortunate.

Obsessive thinking

Our brains are hard-wired to keep us safe and for many people this means a lot of obsessive worrying and fear. Do you notice that we pay far more attention to things that are scary, bad, and negative in our lives.  Why dont we BROOD for hours and hours about the great meal we had with friends over the weekend?  It is because we are hard wired to PROTECT ourselves from DANGER!  We dont need to protect ourselves from GOOD so we dont dwell on the good. This is really, really unfortunate.

In reality, we are putting ourselves through great suffering way more often than needed. Life is not ALWAYS bad. Feel what you need to feel, but then look for the good in life again. It is important to notice, JUST NOTICE, when things are going well.  If you can TOLERATE the challenges and APPRECIATE the good then life is going to be far more enjoyable for you and everyone else in your life. The great news is that this is a HABIT and everyone CAN CHANGE A HABIT with enough dedication!!

There is a better way!

I like to keep a running list of things that make me happy, days that have gone well and notes of thanks from family and friends. My family has been through some tough times, and it is always important to me that I continue to find the good, find the joy – be grateful. Yes, it is easier said than done, but with persistent and consistent effort you can do this as well.  Obsessive thinking about the good in your life is a habit worth creating.
